Lilling Hall Stud operates from Lilling Hall Farm in the beautiful countryside between York and Malton, a short distance from the A64.
Over recent years the farm has undergone a significant transformation under the leadership of Gary and Lynne Sanderson and their hard work and commitment have paid off in making the venture a complete success.
All owners and syndicate members are more than welcome to visit the farm to see both their own horses, and the foals, yearlings and broodmares (that may even be in foal).
As well as preparing and training the horses, Gary also provides Livery services at the farm and full boarding for mares, including those in foal.
We also deal with the foaling and after care for both foal and mare.
We have 4 foaling boxes with a CCTV system installed to enable the ongoing monitoring of foals and mares in our care.
We have recently installed a new horse walker and additional floodlighting around the yard to aid training and associated horse welfare.
Bed & Breakfast facilities are also available at the farm to enable you to spend a night when visiting, or if in the area for racing at the many local courses or any other reason. Please contact us for further details.
The farm will also be the venue for the owners and breeders social events, which we hope many will partake in to make the ownership experience a great and fun event.
Gary Sanderson has been involved in racing since the age of 15, over 35 years. He is steeped in experience and worked for many top trainers, not just in the UK but all over the world.
He is currently an owner and breeder of both flat and NH bred horses and has recently gained a full trainers license as well as working with horses in many capacities. His first foal as a breeder was Rocky Reef, who has had a successful career in the UK, winning 3 races, and has recently been sold to race in Dubai.
Gary bred Rocky Reef from his mare Leah’s Pride, who stands here at Lilling Hall Farm. She has since produced the yearling on the “Our Horses” page, by Champs Elysees.
Gary has a close connection to Andrew Balding who trained Rocky Reef in his early career.
The horses will usually start their time with us at Lilling Hall Farm.
This is where they are prepared before they move onto a racing career which can be continued in the same environment and settings. This leads to a more settled and contented horse in the opinion of Gary.
Dependent upon each horses individual needs, age and experience, Gary will break them in, and teach them the ropes so to speak.
Many of the horses have been born here and have known Gary all their lives.
